SAN GIMIGNANO: CITTA' DELLE BELLE TORRI

Our second weekend adventure began with a trip to San Gimignano, a medieval town about an hour south of Florence.  San Gimignano has been called “the city of beautiful towers”, as fourteen of its original towers are still intact.  Upon arriving in this quaint spot, our gruppo split in half-some chose to climb la Torre Grossa for a view of the city, while others visited the Museo della Tortura for a lesson on medieval weaponry and torture methods.  Students were able to explore around the center for lunch, and some were brave enough to try the local specialty: cinghiale (wild boar).  Many studenti also enjoyed a sweet treat from Gelateria di Piazza, a world renowned gelateria which boasts flavors such as Blackberry Lavender, Champagne Grapefruit, and Spicy Chocolate Cherry.  With full stomachs and smiling faces, we continued the day’s adventures on toward Siena….
